How image translation works
Translate text in images online in three easy steps. No sign up. No installation required. Choose a target language, upload an image, and get a translated overlay.
Choose translation language
Select the language you want the image text translated into from the searchable target-language picker.
Upload an image
Drag and drop a PNG, JPEG, WEBP, or static GIF screenshot or photo, then click Translate image.
Download the translated result
JotMe detects readable text, translates it, overlays the translation on the image, and lets you review each text block.
About image translation and JotMe
JotMe combines purpose-built translation and transcription tools with a broader system for multilingual teams to capture, understand, and act on conversations.
About the image translation tool
JotMe image translation is special because it turns screenshots, signs, menus, and document photos into usable translated overlays. It detects readable text, translates it into your target language, and keeps each block reviewable.
About JotMe
JotMe is special because multilingual operations include visual content too. Image translation helps teams understand photos and screenshots quickly, then continue in meetings, chat, and follow-up workflows in the language they work in.
Translate photos, screenshots, and text in images
Upload an image with readable text to see a translated overlay and review the original and translated text blocks together.
Translate an image to English
Choose English as the target language to understand a foreign-language screenshot, sign, or label. Source text is detected automatically. For Japanese or Chinese images, keep characters sharp and upright so small details remain readable.
Translate a screenshot
Capture the part of the screen that contains the message, instructions, or menu you need. Upload it as PNG, JPEG, or WEBP. Review each detected text block alongside its translation, especially product names, buttons, and short phrases that need context.
Use a clear photo
Photograph menus and signs straight on, with enough light and minimal glare. Crop away irrelevant areas while keeping complete sentences. Blurry, tiny, curved, or partially hidden text may be missed or misread; check the source blocks before relying on the translation.
Choose images or documents
Use image translation for a screenshot or photo. Use document translation for a multipage PDF or an editable Word file. Translating an image gives an overlay to review; it does not turn the picture into an editable Word document.

FAQ
What is an image translator and how does it work?
An image translator finds readable text in a photo or screenshot, translates it into your target language, and shows the translation on the image. JotMe also lists each detected text block so you can review the source and translation side by side.
Can I translate text in images online for free?
Yes. Try image translation for free without signing up. Upload an image, choose a target language, and review the translated result.
Which image formats are supported?
JotMe supports PNG, JPEG, WEBP, and GIF images. Animated GIFs are not supported.
Can I translate a WEBP image?
Yes. Upload a WEBP image with readable text on this page, choose the target language, and select Translate image. You can review the translated overlay and text blocks without first converting the file to PNG or JPEG.
Can I translate text in a GIF?
This tool accepts static, single-frame GIF images. Animated GIFs are not supported. To translate a caption from an animation, save a still frame as PNG or JPEG and upload that image. The result is a still image, not a translated animation.
Does JotMe auto-detect the source language in the image?
Yes. JotMe auto-detects the language of readable text in your image, so you only need to choose the language you want the translation in.
Can I translate screenshots, signs, and menus?
Yes. Image translation works well for screenshots, signs, menus, captions, and simple documents where the text is clear enough to read.
How do I translate an image to English?
Select English from the target-language picker, upload a supported image, and choose Translate image. Review the translated overlay and the source and translated text blocks.
Can I translate Japanese or Chinese text in a photo?
Upload an image with clear, readable text and choose your target language. The source language is detected automatically. Check the detected characters, because small, blurry, or stylized text can reduce accuracy.
Can I translate a screenshot on my phone?
Open this page in your mobile browser and use the upload picker to select a saved screenshot or photo. You do not need to install a browser extension.
Does image translation extract text or translate it?
It does both: JotMe detects readable text, translates it into the chosen language, and displays translated text over the image. The text blocks let you compare the source and result.
